You’ve found a personal site where I post my paintings (such as they are), projects, photos and anything I spend any significant amount of time thinking about that could be shared.  I post for my family, friends and anyone that happens upon my little part of the web.  I’m not here to compete, make money or impress.  I really don’t care how many followers I have, or how many likes on a post, so if I comment on your blog, or follow you, it’s because I genuinely have a desire to see more of your art/writing and because I have been inspired by your work.  I do however, love comments; I value constructive feedback.

 

My name is Scott, and I started painting in November 2011.

 

I’m in my 40′s and I had no idea that I would ever want to paint, until I tried it.  It has been a life-changing experience. I have a lot to learn, and I generally do not see my work as being ‘good’, but I’m doing better than when I started.

 

For me, it’s not about the finished work (if any art is ever really finished), or how good or bad it is, it’s about the process, and what is learned.  I have a whole room full of unfinished work, because I quickly move onto another piece, another idea.  Slowly, but surely, I’m getting to the point where I want to take my time and do well, rather than having an idea and slapping a bunch of paint onto a canvas and calling it done.  For me, that’s progress.

 

My seven day challenge to you — It is my goal to do everything I can to encourage others to pick up a brush, some markers, or a pencil, use a computer, or a camera, and create something once a day for a week. Do this, then convince me you have not been changed by the experience for the better.

 

Art has the power to heal what may be broken, to validate what is already good in you and to give you new eyes to see the world in a way that you never thought possible or relevant, if you give it a chance.  Talented or not, artistic, or not, art changes the lives of those who participate in the process of creating it.  If you share your work, whether it is good in your eyes, or not, whether it has value in the sometimes twisted art world, or not, it WILL inspire ‘someone’.  Don’t ever let an arty snob on the internet, who believes they have an exclusive pass to be called an artist, discourage you from creating.  Take time to create, and if done with honesty and effort, you’re going to love the way you ‘art’, and others will as well.
